WRAIR is the largest and most diverse biomedical research laboratory in the Department of Defense. Our main facility, the Daniel K. Inouye building, is located in Silver Spring, Maryland. Other laboratory and clinical facilities carry out research in Asia, Africa, and Europe through cooperative partnerships with host governments and militaries through the US State Department. Our greatest resources are the dedicated scientists, technicians, and support personnel who make up the core of the WRAIR today.

Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) continues to be at the forefront of developing and implementing a continuum of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) educational opportunities essential to developing the potential in our youth for STEM careers.
WRAIR takes part in engaging a diverse group of the youngest scientists and engineers in hands-on experiments in our teaching laboratory or in research internships in our laboratories. It is part of the National Security Strategy that we train the next generation of STEM professionals.
Through the Departments of Army and Defense and the National Institutes of Health Science Education Partnership Awards, WRAIR has helped establish a series of programs to involve students in STEM activities.
