National Association of Biology Teachers (NABT) and SN Partnership in Neurobiology Education

  • Abstract

Combining the expertise of high school biology teachers and neuroscientists to increase the ability to engage student interest in the nervous system this project relates neurobiology to topics students care about such as drug abuse. The goals are to improve understanding of the nervous system and its relationship to disease including drug abuse depression pain and eating disorders and to promote interaction among neuroscientists high school biology teachers and their students.

Twenty teams of exemplary high school biology teachers and neuroscientists nationwide are participating in a summer workshop. The neuroscientists will update teachers’ knowledge of neuroscience and teachers will work with neuroscientists and science educators to develop investigative classroom materials.

After field testing the most successful materials will be edited and distributed nationwide to neuroscientists and teachers at workshops and conventions and to the public as appropriate.
