Animal Models in Basic Research: Workshop for Teachers

  • Abstract

The objective of this project is to educate the educator by designing developing and conducting a series of workshops for Florida middle- and high-school science teachers that addresses the importance of basic research in progress toward improving health and the necessity of the responsible use of animals in basic as well as in applied behavioral and biomedical research. During the first year of the project scientists and workshop personnel are developing written materials video materials and hands-on exercises for classroom use. These materials will be distributed to classrooms throughout the workshops that will be held in the local school districts during the second and third year of the project. Each middle- and high-school science teacher in Florida will have the opportunity to attend a workshop in his or her local school district. Local scientists who will make presentations at the workshops and the secondary science teachers in attendance will establish a working partnership.
