Hello members of the NIH SciEd community,

We are excited to announce that we will hold a NIH SciEd virtual mini-conference on November 9 – 12, 2020 (Monday through Thursday), with 1-2 hours of conference sessions per day. The conference schedule is listed at the end of this email. Five conference sessions will focus on sharing experiences and challenges in carrying out STEM education and programming during this pandemic:

  • Informal Science Education
  • Programs for Students
  • Research and Evaluation
  • Research Experiences for Students and Teachers
  • Teacher Professional Development

The format for each session is “open discussion” so please come ready to share! While sessions are scheduled to last 1 hour, participants may stay on for 30 minutes to continue the discussion, if desired.

In addition, Tony Beck, the NIH SEPA Program Officer will hold a Town Hall meeting to provide updates on the NIGMS Science Education Partnership Award Program and answer questions. The conference is focused on bringing together NIH-funded science education projects but is open to anyone who is interested in the topics that will be discussed. We welcome participation by NIH staff as well as STEM-focused staff at other federal agencies and personnel from projects they fund.

We are truly looking forward to this opportunity for our SciEd community to re-connect after 1.5 years and to continuing to support one another through the current circumstances.

Best wishes to each of you,

Louisa Stark and Dina Drits-Esser (co-chairs)
