Update: We Role Like This!
Inspire and educate students with e-books and interactive game from the “This is How We ‘Role’’’ project.
Four beautifully illustrated storybooks engage young students as they enter a world of subtle role-playing to learn the differences or similarities between how people and animals are treated by professionals. All books are available in English and in Spanish.
- Macaws Need Medicines, Too!
- Elephants Need Eye Doctors, Too!
- Dachshunds Get Diabetes, Too!
- Donkeys Need Dentists, Too!
Kapow! is an online action game where children learn how to keep people and animals healthy. They discover that doctors and scientists have super powers to prevent and treat accidents, diseases and other health challenges that people and animals face, and discover five super powers they already have—and how to get more powers. A certificate is given upon completion.
Project Update: The program has expanded beyond Purdue University to additional regions of the country. Collaborators include Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University, Lincoln Memorial University College of Veterinary Medicine, and Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
Purdue’s CVM and Evaluation and Learning Research Center are providing collaborators with online professional development training for delivering the program in a culturally responsive, age-appropriate manner. Lesson materials include instructions, handouts and activity sheets, as well as tools for assessing the program’s impact both on the students and veterinary student role models.
