Project Description
Natural Disasters & Health is a live simulation with a classroom of students in 5 teams role playing EMTs at the disaster site and ER doctors to triage, take vital signs, order tests, diagnose and treat people/avatars injured during the natural disasters such as eruptions, earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes and floods. Students interact with avatars in the sim, and by Zoom with project educators (Chief Medical Officers) who ask critical thinking questions and help guide confused students. In addition to the sim, NSH has another comprehensive component, the NDH Center, that contains PBL modules, teacher professional development, curriculum resources, and SocioScientific Issues PBLs for students to research and discuss issues such as how to most fairly distribute vaccines when they are in limited supply.
